50÷60 Hz CURRENT TRANSFORMERS

These transformers are used for current measurements at 50÷60 Hz from 25 A to 600 A (nominal primary current).

The peculiar characteristic of these transformers is the high number of secondary turns. This means a very low secondary current directly suitable for an electronic circuit of measurement. The secondary current may be detected as a voltage on a resistor. This is a low power and low cost resistor, directly mounted on the P.C. board.

The great benefit using these transformers by comparison with other systems is the possibility to handle the signal with a circuit galvanically insulated from the a.c. network and then, especially for applications with dangerous voltages, in compliance with the security standards. The secondary applied circuit is typically a resistor and the transfered signal, with minimum phase-shifts, offers accuracy and linearity with different values of current.

Application fields:
- current sense for electronic control and protection circuits of apparatus as rectifier bridges, motors, UPS and similars;
- current sense for measurements instruments (current probe).
